i always thought you were someone who’d just smoke and drink all day, but i have began to change my definition of you after watching you talk in class.

it started out with the small things: how you bitterly commented on the competitiveness of lynbrook, how you criticized some of the curriculum we were learning in school, how you said that you’ve had experience living homeless. slowly but surely, i found myself agreeing with your comments and gaining respect for you. then more of your actions started to catch my attention: the fact that you always read your part of the skit with commitment (accent, stage directions, everything), and how you were considering choosing “save room” by john legend, an amazing song by an amazing artist, to play in class today.

it’s interesting to see how even the least expected person can be so engaged in school. it gives me hope and always makes me smile.
